About SoLO

SoLO General Manager Janet Down

SoLO enables children, young people and adults with learning disabilities to enjoy social and leisure activities that the rest of us take for granted.
We operate throughout Solihull from our offices based in Chelmsley Wood.

We support people with learning disabilities by providing a wide range of services.
We provide specialist leisure projects for those with more specific needs and organise activities that allow people with moderate learning disabilities have access to mainstream pursuits.

The people that we work with have a range of learning disabilities, from moderate to severe.

The Projects are held at a variety of venues across North and South Solihull and the times vary to suit the needs and availability.

Some projects offer transport in mini-buses, some provide transport in staff and volunteers cars.

In providing social, leisure and fun activities for individuals with learning disabilities, we provide the parents and carers of those individuals with much needed respite – a break from the full-time job of caring for disabled people.

Our groups are run by paid staff and supported by volunteers.

Given the nature of our work with vulnerable individuals, every member of staff and all volunteers are subjected to Police checks to ensure their suitability for the work.

SoLO.is a registered charity operating in Solihull. We are funded through a variety of different sources such as corporate sponsorship and generosity, our own fundraising activities, the kindness and generosity of individuals and through grants from organisations such as the Local Authority, the National Lottery and Children In Need.

There are approximately 4000 individuals in Solihull with learning disabilities ranging from moderate to severe.  Despite our efforts and the generosity of our funders, we can only provide services for a proportion of those in need.  We therefore need your help and support.
