Solihull Leisure Opportunities, a registered charity, is looking to expand its workforce and have the following vacancies:
Administrator (reference ADM1) £8.90 an hour
Working in a busy office, situated in Chelmsley Wood, for 17.5 hours a week (4 afternoons) you will be supporting the Project staff to deliver exciting, efficient and safe services to our learning disabled members. You will need to be proficient in Microsoft Office, have a working knowledge of databases and possess a friendly, flexible personality.Project Leader - Arts (reference PLART2) £9.26 an hour
Up to two evenings a week, you will be responsible for leading a team of workers and volunteers, supported by Arts Professionals, to enable young people with learning disabilities and from mainstream to develop their skills in all aspects of the performing arts. Project Management and experience of working with people with disabilities is essential.Project Leader - Drumming (reference PLDR3) £9.26 an hour
One evening a week, based in South Solihull, you will be responsible for leading a team of workers and volunteers, supported by Professionals, to enable young people with learning disabilities and from mainstream to develop their skills in percussion. Project Management and experience of working with people with disabilities is essential.Assistant Project Leader - Specialist After School Scheme for Children with severe learning disabilities (reference APLT4) £8.33 an hour
Tuesday evenings 3.30 to 7.30pm based in Smithswood you will be responsible for supporting the Project Leader to lead a team of staff and volunteers to provide an after school provision for children who need specialist support. Experience of working with children with disabilities essential.Support Workers - Evening and Weekends (reference SWTE5) £7.41 an hour
We have opportunities for people with experience of working with people with disabilities to support our term time projects. Working for 2 to 4 hours a week, you will be part of a team enabling our learning disabled members to enjoy a social life, learn new skills and develop their independence.Support Workers - Holidays and half term (reference SWH6) £7.41 an hour
We have opportunities for people with experience of working with children with disabilities to support our children’s work. Our projects range from specialist schemes for those with more severe disabilities, to community based schemes, as well as inclusive play.Drivers - all projects (reference DRI7) £7.41 an hour
We need drivers who are aged 21 and above, with 2 years driving experience with no points, and a D1 category on their license to drive minibuses.All of the above positions are subject to CRB reference checking.

Volunteering - Always Available
A great way to gain experience and do something valuableSoLO would not be able to operate without its brilliant band of volunteers. Also, as a volunteer within SoLO we expect you to be introduced to all aspects of the projects and to be supported whilst working for us.
We provide free training to all our volunteers, to build up their skills and help them to be more prepared for the work that they do (see our training page for more information).
Our volunteers are simply amazing and go far and beyond what we expect from them to benefit our members.
- Emma is cycling in Vietnam and Cambodia this year to raise money for SoLO and Oxfam (If you want to support her click on www.justgiving.com.)
- Anita and Cookie went round the pubs in Shirley selling mega amounts of raffle tickets for our Grand Prize Draw.
- Paul arrived at the Love is Disco in an amazing costume which made everyone’s day!
- Emmi ran a ‘guess the weight of my baby’ competition and raised over £300 – and also had a gorgeous baby!
- Tony turns up regularly to provide us with wonderful photos.
- Charles and David have spent hours developing our website.
- Roger has given a massive amount of time to help us survive our audit.
Supported volunteers
As a charity committed to giving young people with learning disabilities a more fulfilling life, we also have supported volunteers on our projects and in the office. This responsibility gives the supported volunteers a significant boost to their self-esteem. Currently we have Tom on North Arts, Tracy on Open Door, Daniel on Teen Open Door and Alison in our office helping us once a week.
Most importantly, of course, all of our wonderful volunteers are week in, week out supporting our members to enjoy a social life which makes a difference to their lives.
All out volunteers are reference checked and have a full Criminal Records Bureau check before they start volunteering with us.
